Informative Speech VS. Persuasive Speech

For my informative speech, I had a lot of mess ups. I read of my notecards too much and said "uh" and "um" a lot. I also looked back at my power point a lot which also made me have bad eye contact. I had a lot of room to improve.

For my persuasive speech, I talked about cyber bullying and how big of a problem it is. I had a good hook and a good thesis statement. I had no hand gestures though because I was holding my notecards. I think my eye contact improved from my first speech but I still need to look at the sides.

How to French Braid Hair

Strong Points:
  • I had a loud voice.
  • I spoke clearly and with confidence.
  • I thought I explained the steps very clearly and demonstrated well.
  • I told the class why I chose to learn and teach how to French Braid hair.
  • I was the only one in the class who chose that topic.

Weak Points:

  • I took long pauses during my speech while I was braiding.
  • I did not look at everyone while I was giving my speech.
  • I had my back to some people.

Informative Speech

For my informative speech, I researched the Saw Shark. I think my speech was alright but there is room for inprovement. I think i said "um" too much and i swayed from side to side too much. I also looked at my power point too much. Some things I liked about my speech was that I knew what I was talking about and I think I spoke clearly and with confidence. I liked this speech better than the brown paper bag speech because I do not like talking about myself. I enjoyed researching this fish and learning about it and then being able to tell my classmates about it. I need to work on my hook but I thought my conclusion was good.

Brown Paper Bag

After watching my brown paper bag speech, I saw that I am not the best at giving speaches. I jumped around too much when I was talking and I looked off of my note card. Although, I do think I had some good areas too. I knew what I was talking about, I used a loud enough voice for everyone to hear, and I did not fidget very much. Also, even though I was nervous, I did not have a shaky voice or a red face. I felt pretty confident when speaking because I knew exactly what I was talking about. I think it is a lot scarier when you do not really know a lot about what you are trying to say. One thing I need to improve is not bobbing my head so much when speaking.

The Taming of the Shrew

I think Snooki should play Katherine because she is loud and gets an attitude quickly, just like Katherine.

Tranio would be played by Taylor Lautner because he's awesome and likes to have fun.

Reese Witherspoon would play Bianca because she is quite and nice and beautiful like Bianca.

Brad Pitt would play Baptista because he has a lot of money.

Kevin Federline would play Petruchio because he only wants money and Kevin married Britney Spears for money. At least that's how it seemed.

Jake Gyllenhaal would be Lucentio because he loves Reese Witherspoon.

Luke and Owen Wilson would play Gremio and Hortensio because they are brothers but they are not afraid of a little competion.

This is my exaple for visual satire. Visual satire is mainly political cartoons and in this picture, it is making President Bush look silly.

An example of deadpan humor is Chealsea Handler. She has her own show called Chealsea Lately. Everytime she is interviewing the celebrity who is on her show, she will ask them questions in a joking matter but have a very serious face which confuses the celebrity and is also funny at the same time.

An example of reversal is Mr. Mom which is a movie. This movie is about a family and the father loses his job and the wife, who is usually a stay at home wife, finds a job. That means the father has to now stay home to watch his three young kids. Mr. Mom is an example of reversal because it switches the roles of the good house wife and the working father.

"It will take time to restore chaos and order."
-President George W. Bush
This is an example of malapropism. In order for something to be a malapropism, someone must say something but accidentally use the wrong word resulting in the sentence not making sense. George Bush did this many times and it came to be known as Bushisms. He said he would restore chaos but that is one thing you do not want restored.
